We are just a month away from the release of The Force Awakens, and we’re getting story details that seem to suggest some infighting among baddies.
In just a few weeks time, we’re going to be watching The Force Awakens and getting all of the answers we’ve been waiting roughly 32 years to find out.
What happens after Return of the Jedi?
Fans don’t yet know the answers to that yet, but the people behind the film are starting to tease us with storylines to look for when we head to the theater. J.J. Abrams recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to dish on some things that lie ahead in The Force Awakens, and that includes tipping us off to the tenuous relationship between two villainous characters.
A word of caution — there are potential spoilers ahead so if you don’t want to know then stop right here.
You’ve been warned, so anything you read beyond this point is your own fault. Use The Force and resist if you must.
Abrams spoke to Entertainment Weekly and noted that while Kylo Ren and General Hux are on the same team fighting for the same goal, they aren’t on the same level.
"He’s kind of opposite Kylo Ren. They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual. One of them is strong in different ways than the other. They’re both vying for power."
This seems to be very much in the same vein as the Vader-Tarkin relationship in A New Hope. While Tarkin and Vader weren’t at odds, they weren’t inviting one another out on lunch dates either. The relationship between Kylo Ren and General Hux seems to be taking things to the ext level of animosity where they’re clearly using each other for power, both are aware of this and won’t stand for tolerating the other outside the relationship they need to have.
It’s an interesting dynamic that adds some depth to a relationship we will no doubt find out more about as we near the release of the film.
