Adam Driver’s Unique Take on his Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character
Adam Driver has some interesting thoughts on Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Empire Magazine has had quite the busy week, what with its huge Star Wars: The Force Awakens spread. As part of their coverage, Empire released an all new Kylo Ren photo, and with it, some interesting quotes from the man behind that mask, Adam Driver. The Girls actor says that he sees the character of Kylo Ren as more of a religious fanatic, and less like a traditional villain.

"“When they think of their actions as morally justified. It makes them dangerous and unpredictable. There’s no level they won’t go to to accomplish what they’re after. I never thought of the character as an evil person.”"
Back in August, director J.J. Abrams shook the Star Wars fanbase with the announcement that Kylo Ren was not a Sith. According to Abrams, Kylo — who’s last name is not Ren but the order to which he belongs — is allied to Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis in a motion capture role) and the First Order. Kylo is obsessed with Darth Vader, and while he obviously is strong in the Dark Side of the Force, not being an actual Sith Lord may hold the key to who he actually is…or will be when the story finishes playing out on the big screen.

Adam Driver doesn’t do many interviews, in fact, he is one of the more reclusive stars of The Force Awakens, preferring to have Daisy Ridley and John Boyega carry the spotlight. However, if Driver doesn’t believe his character is purely evil, but more of a misguided religious fanatic, then there may be room for redemption. I guess we’ll have to wait for another month, when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in its worldwide theatrical premiere on December 17 and 18.
