This dress downplays the cuteness and amps up the drama, appropriate to the next epic heroine of Star Wars featured on the front. It looks a little bit like a nightgown to me, but perhaps I just need to see it on a moving model or try it on myself to appreciate it as an everyday (or every-evening) gown.
