When Did They Die: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Who Were They: Jabba’s especially deadly pet

How Did They Die: Luke Skywalker closed a massive metal gate on its head

We’ve already covered the two victims of the rancor we see in the movie, but now it’s time to throw some love to the big lady herself.

So, as we said previously, we have already been conditioned to be appropriately afraid of the rancor after she ate both Oola and Jubnuk. Were it not for Luke being a Jedi now and all, we might think he would share the fate of the rancor’s prior victims.

Despite being a Jedi, Luke still struggles with the massive beast. He works his way around her, finds the conveniently located button to engage her cell door, and brings it down on her head.

Her end might not be so bittersweet if it weren’t for the rancor’s handler immediately running to her lifeless body, crying. Despite its terrifying reputation, she was still capable of being loved by somebody.
