20. Salacious B. Crumb

When Did They Die: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Who Were They: Jabba’s supremely annoying pet monkey-rat

How Did They Die: Exploded with the rest of Jabba’s luxury pleasure barge in the desert sea of Tatooine

Even if we don’t see it happen first hand, there might be no more satisfying death than that of Salacious B. Crumb. Even compared to his ruthless and disgusting owner, Salacious stands out. His mind-shatteringly obnoxious laugh — or whatever monkey rats do when they find something funny — made each scene he happened to be that much worse. Even if you have not seen the movie recently, chances are you can conjure that laugh in your imagination at will. It’s that bad.

We don’t know how much, if any, sentience Salacious had. Was he simply Jabba’s pet or was he something more? Was he something of a co-conspirator to the infamous gangster’s various plots and vengeances? Or was he just the court jester, anxious to fill any silence with own laugh if not anyone else’s?

Does the answer to any of those questions make us care any more or any less that he went down with the rest of Jabba’s pleasure boat crew? Probably not.
