When Did They Die: Almost all the time

Who Were They: A paranoid protocol droid that found himself in ridiculously dangerous situations just on the periphery of just about every major event in the galaxy for well over forty years.

How Did They (Almost) Die: Blaster bolts, disintegration, decapitation, anxiety attacks, etc.

Keen-eyed readers will note that C-3PO is alive and well, even in the upcoming sequels. How is it that he finds himself on this death list, then?

Because by any measure, C-3PO should be dead. That’s not a personal preference (though it’s not not that either), but rather a matter of simple statistics. Consider how frequently C-3PO is brought along on some highly sensitive mission only to come perilously close to death. How many times do Anakin, Obi-wan, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Luke, Han and Leia have to save his golden butt before they realize that he is the biggest liability since Jar Jar Binks? Does having access to six million forms of communication really outweighed the considerable burden of having C-3PO around?

Were C-3PO to have died in any of the many opportunities he had to do so, it might inspire a sentimental tear or so from both his ‘friends’ and the viewer, but not much else. That might sound like a harsh assessment of one of the franchise’s most beloved creations, but he brought it on himself by being so clumsy.
