24. Force Persuasion vs Mindmeld

One of the coolest aspects of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, was Obi-Wan as a Jedi, and his using the Force. A major part of those Jedi Master skills is Force Persuasion. How many times did you try and persuade your parents, siblings, friends, and teachers with the Force, when you were a kid? Heck, I’m 41 and I still try to use the Force on my wife…I think it’s starting to work. More practice!

The Trek equivalent of the Force Persuasion is the Vulcan Mindmeld. It’s not as flashy or cool, and has to be done by making contact with the person you are trying to telepathically link up with, which makes it far inferior to Force Persuasion.

Winner: Force Persuasion. Can you just imagine Spock trying to take off the stormtrooper’s helmet so he could then touch his head and force his thoughts on him? Nah, I’ll take the casual wave of a hand, and allow the Force to do the rest. These aren’t the droids we’re looking for.
