The Force Awakens — ESPN will Show Lightsaber Documentary: The Way of the Sword
Make sure to tune into ESPN on December 15, as SC Featured will present a documentary on Lightsaber duels, titled: The Way of the Sword.
In preparation for the worldwide release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ESPN (a Disney owned network) will air a documentary as part of their popular SC Featured series all about the Lightsaber duels of Star Wars, titled The Way of the Sword. Here’s the official announcement from the SportsCenter Twitter account:
"“It’s the way of the sword.” @starwars and #SCFeatured present: “The Evolution of the Lightsaber Duel.” https://t.co/kxL0tz4UwH— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) December 8, 2015"
As you can see, there will be coverage of the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, and even Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Interviews look to include George Lucas, the Lightsaber choreography supreme — Nick Gillard — as well as John Boyega from The Force Awakens, and others. Mark Hamill will be hosting…so there’s your Luke Skywalker sighting.
I love that this special will focus on the the Kendo aspect of Lightsaber combat. And, if you notice, Gillard makes a comment that the honor of Kendo represent everything the Jedi are. Makes you wonder what style the Sith would use. There’s also the nod to the Prequel Trilogy Lightsaber duels, which many Star Wars fans consider to be overly done. I do not fall into that category, as the prequel duels were some of the best in the entire Star Wars franchise…in my opinion.

This all looks very exciting and since it’s airing just two nights before the theatrical premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 17, I’m sure there will be some new snippets from the film, just to wet the appetite of ravenous Star Wars fans.
