16. Jabba The Hutt

Major Appearances

  • Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
  • Star Wars Episode V: Return of the Jedi

Best Moment

How can you pick the best moment of a slug who is nothing more than a gangster. But in the twisted view of Jabba, his best moment was when he finally got his hands on Han Solo frozen in carbonite to display on his wall. Jabba had long been after a way to get his hands on Han, and literally hanging him on his wall as decoration was a high point in his life.

Worst Moment

Dying usually shoots to the top of the list of your not so great moments, and Jabba went out like a true gangster. Just like Lucca Brassi in The Godfather, Jabba was strangled to death. He was powerful in his life but in death he was nothing more than just another dead punk.

Breakdown

The Star Wars galaxy is a vast universe, and one of the under explored realms of that galaxy is the gangster underground. The Hutts rule the criminal underworld and the best known Hutt to Star Wars fans is Jabba. He was slimy, he was gross and he was powerful — all things that clashed with the universe that had been created by seemed to fit right in as an adversary — and sometimes ally — to those trying to do good.
