Major Appearances

  • Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
  • Clone Wars

Best Moment

It’s hard to find a good thing that a bad guy did, but then again Darth Maul was about as evil as it gets. He was the perfect silent assassin, as he rarely spoke but carried a pretty big stick. His best moment was probably when killed Qui-Gon, for a number of different reasons. For starters, it was probably personally satisfying for him, but on the flip side it helped further mature a then-young Obi-Wan. It was the loss that Obi-Wan needed to suffer in order to truly develop his skills.

Worst Moment

When you get cut in half, it’s pretty hard to find something that was worse than that. Maul let hubris get the best of him after he killed Qui-Gon and pressed Obi-Wan up against the ropes. But whenever you get cocky, you usually make a mistake that leads to your downfall. In Maul’s case, it led to his getting cut in half.

Breakdown

Just like how Boba Fett went out like a punk, Darth Maul was a drastically underused villain who was around for basically half a movie and that’s it. We barely saw him, thought he was cool when we did and then that was it. One of the great regrets — of the many — we have bayou the prequels is that the coolest thing about them was sliced in half at the end of the first movie.
