10. Lando Calrissian vs. Boromir

Who was Lando Calrissian? Untrustworthy aid to the Rebel Alliance that eventually turned good

Who was Boromir? Trustworthy member of the Fellowship who eventually turned bad and died for it

Verdict: Every adventure movie needs its traitor, someone who turns on our hero(es) and briefly makes it seem as if all might be lost.

For Star Wars, that traitor was Lando Calrissian. Han turned to him as a last resort after the Battle of Hoth and almost paid with his life when Lando was forced to hand him and his friends over to Darth Vader.

Lando got the chance to redeem himself, though, and went on to play a crucial role in the Rebel Alliance, even delivering the death blow to the second Death Star in the skies above Endor.

Boromir isn’t given any such chance. He attempts to take the Ring from Frodo at the end of Fellowship, defying the oath he took to protect Frodo and the Ring at all costs. He indirectly dies as a result and is thus not able to reclaim some of the honor he ostensibly had in joining the Fellowship to begin with.

Everyone likes redemption arcs, so Lando takes this. Plus, c’mon, it’s Lando.

Star Wars wins.
