When will Star Wars The Force Awakens (Episode VII) be released in theaters? 

Wondering when you can watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters? We’ve got your back!

The official release date for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is December 18, 2015. The film is guaranteed to open in theaters worldwide on Dec. 18.

However, in select theaters around the world Disney has granted permission for theaters to offer screenings of The Force Awakens starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, according to a report slashfilm.com. Most theaters will have multiple screenings on Dec. 17 and through the night leading into Dec. 18.

The film is also available in 3D and in IMAX, so check your local theaters for specific showtimes.

For those who don’t know, The Force Awakens is also known as Episode VII, or the seventh film in the Star Wars franchise. The film begins roughly 30 years after the events of The Return of the Jedi (Episode VI).

The film was written by Lawrence Kasdan, J. J. Abrams, and Michael Arndt. Abrams also directed the film, which was produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and Bad Robot Productions.

The Force Awakens has tons of new cast members along with some of the stars for Episode I-VI. The film stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow.
