13. Jango Fett

Jango Fett is another villain that is cool in a vacuum but falls victim to some lame prequel writing. Obviously, we love the image of Boba Fett, and Temuera Morrison plays the part pretty well. He’s fearless and confident, even when faced with Jedi. He also does have a deeper personality beyond just “bad guy”.

The problem is that Jango is not really put in a position to be as cool as he could be. For example, I think it’s dumb that Jango, a paid bounty hunter, had to hire another paid bounty hunter to kill Padmé for him. Why? Because Attack of the Clones needed more cryptic villains. Duh.

Jango does have a very cool feel about him, and he actually manages to be a match for Obi-Wan. Once again, his death was a little anti-climactic, given that he just stands there while Mace Windu charges at him and beheads him. Besides that, he does add to the depth of the movie once he is introduced, mostly because of a decent acting job.

It could be said that he’s just kind of in there to show us more Boba Fett and give him a cameo in the prequels. That’s fair, given that George Lucas loved to throw in bridges between the trilogies  regardless of how much sense they did or did not make. Still, for a holdover character, he’s a cool villain with the right personality for his role.
