9. Yuuzhan Vong

Holy —-, these guys are scary. They are a race of aliens from outside the galaxy who challenge the New Republic and kill trillions of people in their invasion.

Not only do they look great, but they are a great enemy for the post-Empire universe. One, they are immune to almost everything Force-related. They can’t be sensed or read by the Force, and Force powers besides lightning didn’t work on them. Yep. The power that governs this entire universe has a weakness as well. That’s scary.

The Yuuzhan Vong also have a very interesting culture. They have no mechanical technology, instead using organic biotech to wage war. They are also masochistic and organ grafting was scene as a status symbol in their culture. Find something more brutally screwed up in Star Wars than that.

They also saw death as a release from suffering, which made them a relentless foe for the Jedi and New Republic because they did not care at all for casualties. Also, they basically took control of most of the  galaxy in two years.

They are an interesting kind of metaphor for what modern culture considers primitive or foreign. They have seemingly barbaric beliefs, and are fanatically spiritual and different from the organized democracy they are hostile towards. It is another time when Star Wars connects to real society and history, and it does so with a really scary army of deadly aliens.
