10. Qui-Gon Jinn vs. Darth Maul (Episode I)
While the lightsaber battle between Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul might be the shortest fight in all six movies, it’s one of the most underrated duels when put into context of the film series as a whole.
Because The Phantom Menace is obviously the first of the prequels, this is battle between Qui-Gon and Maul is the first time in more than 1,000 years that a Sith and a Jedi have dueled.
Maul, who is an apprentice for Darth Sidious, is sent to capture Queen Padmé Amidala. Qui-Gon feels the disturbance in the force and is able to get Anakin and Queen Amidala on the starship just before Maul appears. Then, a very fine duel ensues!
The fight doesn’t pull out all the stops, so to speak, and it leaves a lot of be desired. But, I could have watched Qui-Gon and Maul duke it out for two hours in Tatooine and been totally fine with that movie!
