Obi-Wan Kenobi guides another young Jedi, and this time as part of a Force vision, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens…
Obi-Wan Kenobi is as much a part of Star Wars, as Lightsabers and the Deathstar. In one form or another, Obi-Wan has been in every Star Wars film, from Episode I: The Phantom Menace as Qui-Gon’s padawan, to Episode IV: A New Hope as the elder Jedi, watching over and training a young Luke Skywalker, to Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, as a Force Ghost…there hasn’t been a Star Wars film or television series (The Clone Wars) without Obi-Wan making some sort of appearance and having a significant impact.
So, it should come as no surprise that Old Ben was in The Force Awakens, although in a much more mysterious and muted role. This scene happened when Rey had her Force vision in Maz Kanata’s castle, after touching the Skywalker relic lightsaber. A voice, which was very familiar to many Star Wars fans, called out her name “Rey…” but at best, it was a guess at who belonged to that voice. Well guess no more, as an enterprising Star Wars fan reached out to the other Obi-Wan (James Arnold Taylor who voiced Obi-Wan in the animated The Clone Wars) on Twitter, and got this extremely surprising answer:
So there it is, from the Jedi’s mouth…or Twitter account, rather. Now, as for Ewan McGregor confirming this, there has been no news, which just means we will all have to go back and watch The Force Awakens again, stay for the credits…again, and see if McGregor and Taylor are credited for the voice-role.

How amazing is J.J. Abrams, that he included arguably the most recognizable and beloved character in the Star Wars universe? Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve seen…or heard of Obi-Wan, and the Jedi Master who is now one with the Force will appear in Episode VIII as a Force Ghost to help guide Rey on the path of the Jedi. I mean…he’s got to help train another Skywalker, right? Anakin, Luke, and now Rey?
