If you’re like us here at Dork Side of the Force, many of you probably asked for Star Wars merchandise for Christmas. Some of you with deep-pocketed friends and family may even have asked for some expensive gifts from our favorite sci-fi saga.
That being said, few holiday presents could be more incredible than being given a Star Wars action figure from the 1980 still in its original packaging — and without anyone paying a lot of money to acquire it. Yet that’s exactly what happened to one lucky redditor who goes by the handle OMGparty.
As the Daily Dot explains, OMGparty’s mom bought a Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) action figure as a gift more than 30 years ago, then forgot about it. Finding the figure stashed away in the back of a drawer, the mom waited and gave it as a gift this year, one that just happens to likely now be worth hundreds of dollars.

You can see in the image from OMGparty’s Imgur account that the figure was purchased at K-Mart back in the day for $2.50; figures of the same size can easily go for three times that price brand new today. The other awesome part is that the packaging displays the original working title for Return of the Jedi, as it was still being called Revenge of the Jedi when this toy was produced.
Though the Daily Dot article notes that the redditor doesn’t think the figure might be worth even $500 due to the wear and tear on its card, we’d have to say that a present like this is pretty much priceless thanks to the combination of thoughtfulness and luck involved. Then again, as the great philosopher Obi-Wan Kenobi once said, in my experience, there’s no such thing as luck …
