Star Wars: The Force Awakens was half-heartedly suggesting that Harrison Ford might get an Oscar nod for his final turn as Han Solo, but the odds were always stacked against that. The Oscars are famously snobbish when it comes to genre movies, especially Science Fiction and Fantasy. The last time they were willing to do a major overlook of those prejudices was at the end of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Chances are, if the academy is planning on honoring Star Wars, it won’t be until after Episode IX, at best. And even with the Best Picture category expanded from five to “more than five” to include more “popular fare.” (Read: made a lot of money, and everyone loved it, but not going to win), there wasn’t room for The Force Awakens for a nod.
