Ridley Hones Lightsaber Skills for Star Wars: Episode VIII
The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley (Rey) is hard at work, practicing her lightsaber skills for Star Wars: Episode VIII, and the actress recently posted a video to Instagram of her fancy moves…
Daisy Ridley’s character from The Force Awakens — Rey — may get her training in the ways of the Jedi from Luke Skywalker, in Star Wars: Episode VIII, but as far as the training for the actual film goes, a First Order stormtrooper with a penchant for yelling “TRAITOR!” is the one who is handling Ridley’s progression.
Posting a video of her working through a series of rather neat and fluid saber strokes to her Instagram account, Ridley had this to say about her martial arts teacher, stunt performer Liang Yang:
"“So @liangstunts (TRAITOR) is WUSHU FRICKING MASTER and I always try to get him to teach me things… This was today!!!”"
Ridley kept heaping on praise for her teacher, while being a tad bit self-deprecating to herself.
"“Obvs not great but HE’S amazing and he’s also featured at the end…our stunt team are the most incredible group of people, so lucky I get to train with them!”"
Don’t worry Daisy, I’m certain that most of us would either be winded by the first pass through, or sprain and pull various joints and muscles, were we to try and practice those fancy moves.

This little snippet of a video of Ridley working through the motions of a complicated form, only serves to heighten the excitement for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. It means that Ridley is practicing to wield a lightsaber — once again — in the film, and seeing as she defeated Snoke’s apprentice — Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens — without any training at all, having the guidance of Master Luke Skywalker will make her a force to be reckoned with.
