As we saw this season with Game of Thrones, many an enterprising fan took to YouTube to add a Star Wars cinematic flair to Season 6 scenes. This usually meant replacing swords with lightsabers, and tossing in a Star Wars theme song, to really seal the deal. However, Season 6 wasn’t the only season of Game of Thrones to get a makeover using the Force. One only needs to peruse YouTube to see the plethora of fan-edited Star Wars/Game of Thrones mashup videos.
In that regard, yours truly has taken to COUB — where users can create their own HD quality GIFs with sound — to create our very own Game of Thrones/Star Wars mashup GIFs. We start with a brief overview of some of the better scenes of Game of Thrones characters, using lightsabers — Game of Lightsabers: Episode I.
Game of Lightsabers Episode II: Battle of the Bastards, sees Jon Snow wield his deadly Valyrian steel lightsaber against the soldiers of Ramsay Bolton. These scenes were taken from Game of Thrones Episode 609, “Battle of the Bastards.”
Game of Lightsabers Episode III: Attack of the Brienne, follows the Jedi of Tarth’s duel with the dreaded Darth Hound. These scenes were taken from Game of Thrones Episode 410, “The Children.” This one is particularly neat because Gwendoline Christie who portrays Brienne of Tarth on Thrones, also portrays Captain Phasma in the new Star Wars Trilogy.
Game of Lightsabers Episode IV: Revenge of the Hound, shows Darth Hound eating every f**king chicken in the room…and then killing guys with a lightsaber, of course. These scenes are from Game of Thrones Episode 401, “Two Swords.”
Game of Lightsabers Episode V: Rise of the Viper, features the Red Viper of Dorne, Prince Oberyn Martell, as he takes on the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Mountain. Yes, yes, the good guys don’t normally use red lightsabers, but in the Red Viper’s case, I think we can make an exception.
These scenes come from Game of Thrones Episode 408, “The Mountain and the Viper.”
Game of Lightsabers Episode VI: Cleganebowl Awakens, shows the first clash of two powerful Sith, as they vie for control of the galaxy…or at least the Tournament of the Hand. These scenes come from Game of Thrones Episode 104, “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things.”
Game of Lightsabers Episode VII: The Bronn Menace, features a duel between Jedi Knight Vardis Egen and the Sith Assassin, Bronn. These scenes come from Game of Thrones Episode 106, “A Golden Crown.”
Game of Lightabers Episode VIII: Arya Strikes Back, follows the adventures of young Padawan, Arya Stark, as she searches for her missing lightsaber, Needle. Once again, these scenes come from Game of Thrones Episode 401, “Two Swords.”
And finally, departing from the lightsabers aspect of our Game of Thrones/Star Wars mashups, we have Darth Mountain wreaking havoc on the Faith Militant. The following two GIFs come from Game of Thrones Episode 608, “No One.”
That Darth Mountain…first he alters deals, then he chooses violence.
