ABC in Talks for a Star Wars Television Series

One of the BIG THREE television networks, ABC, has set its sights on acquiring the rights to produce a Star Wars series…

This is not a drill…for once in our lifetimes, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel in regards to a Star Wars television series, coming to a major network! As reported by Entertainment Weekly, who asked ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey if there was any type of Star Wars project in the mix, there actually is:

"“Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes.’ The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”"

As you may already know, ABC is owned by Disney, as is Star Wars and Lucasfilm, so a pairing of the two seems like Kismet…so why not just go ahead and do it already? However, the real question remaining in the equation is: Live-Action, or Animation?

As EW points out, Disney XD already has the wildly popular Star Wars Rebels, and we would like to point out that Netflix currently holds the entire library of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. So, going the route of another animated show just seems boring…unless you went all the way back to The Old Republic era, but that’s opening a whole new can of worms that I don’t think Disney wants to open at this time.

I think the only real option is Live- Action. We’ve discussed in detail the defunct Star Wars Underworld project that the Maker himself, George Lucas, put years of time, and scripts, and art, into. The framework is still there at Lucasfilm, all ABC has to do, is get the greenlight from president Kathleen Kennedy, and finish what Lucas started.
