We take a brief pause in our coverage of all things Rogue One, to talk about the next Star Wars standalone film, Han Solo. According to a new report, the film is now casting the role of young Lando Calrissian!
Star Wars fans know well, the long and legendary past between Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. When first we met the smooth-talking dapper-dressed space gambler, he was running Cloud City, in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Of course, in that film, Lando turned the tables on both his old pal, Han Solo, and the Empire, in a classic double-double cross…classic Lando.
Now, thanks to an exclusive scoop from website The Wrap, we know that the filmmakers behind the next Star Wars standalone film, Han Solo, are looking to cast a young Lando Calrissian.
"“Fans have speculated about which of the characters from Solo’s complicated past might turn up in “Han Solo,” and now we know at least one. The Cloud City cassanova was originally played by Billy Dee Williams, and the current code name in casting circles for young Lando is “Chance” — perhaps a reference to the character’s appreciation of cards and dice.”"
Code name “Chance” fits perfectly with Lando’s personality, and would make perfect sense, if Han Solo’s director’s were looking to fill that role.
The question remaining now is: Which actor would fit perfectly into the role of such an iconic Star Wars character? Albeit, the actor would need to be a much younger version of Lando, so the pool from which to pull, narrows a bit.
For my money, actor Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, 2015), has both the acting chops and the charisma to take on a role like Lando Calrissian.
