The official Rogue One Synopsis has been revealed, and although most Star Wars fans already knew the premise of the film, it’s nice to have it officially printed.

StarWars.com has released the official synopsis for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, ahead of Thursday night’s big trailer reveal during NBC’s coverage of the Olympics. As I mentioned, most Star Wars fans already have a generally good idea as to what is happening with the film:

The Empire has a super-weapon they want to use to subjugate entire planets and systems. A fledgling alliance of planets band together, to form a group of rag-tag rebels, in order to steal the plans to that super-weapon, the Death Star.

Well, now, we’ve got the official Rogue One synopsis:

"From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. In theaters December 2016"
