The new full-length trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finally here! We break it down into screenshots below.

The new full-length trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered during the Olympics on NBC tonight, and wow, was it worth the wait. We got a closer look at the main characters and their motivations, more shots of the Empire being utterly awesome, and, of course, a glimpse of a certain villain we’ve been waiting for ever since it was confirmed he would have a cameo in the standalone film.

In case you missed it: Darth Vader is in Rogue One. We don’t expect his screentime to be long, just long enough for him to say a few lines and maybe destroy a few rebels. Because if you put Vader in a film for longer than a few minutes, he’s going to take over the whole story, and I think Lucasfilm wants us to focus on the new characters Rogue One introduces.

What’s great about this new trailer is it gives us a healthy mix of the old and the new. The old manifests itself in things like stormtroopers, classic original trilogy vehicles, costumes, and weapons, and Darth Vader. The new is in the new characters, the new vehicles like the U-wing and the AT-ACT, the new planets, and the fresh aesthetic of a movie directed by a newcomer to the Star Wars universe.

Let’s analyze all of these elements with a screenshot breakdown.

First, we have a large city set up on a plateau, with Imperial ships rising from it. The planet shown here, and in several of the shots from the trailer, is likely Jedha, which has been described as a frozen desert (via Star Wars Databank).
