Star Wars Battlefront VR expansion gets Rogue One tie-in

The developer of EA’s Virtual Reality expansion to Star Wars Battlefront, has revealed that it will be renamed, and directly tie-into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story…

In a recent blog post, the developer of EA’s VR expansion to Star Wars Battlefront, reveled that expansion’s new name, and how it would have ties to the very first Star Wars standalone film, Rogue One.

The expansion’s new name is: Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission, and as Gamespot explains,  Criterion producer James Svensson, explained what went into the renaming and why:

"“Rogue One is in the same time period the base game covers, so to be relevant in the ever-evolving Star Wars universe we’ve since been able to work with Lucasfilm to make the connection here.”"

Svensson also explained that he’d spent the past few months, in his office chair, testing the game as an X-wing pilot, in the VR cockpit. The Criterion producer went on to describe what it will be like for players, in this VR expansion to Star Wars Battlefront:

"“These things [Star Destroyers] are huge and powerful with a belly full of TIE fighters. Being in a fight with a Star Destroyer is not a situation an X-wing pilot wants to find themselves in, but that’s where the player ends up. The player will have to keep their wits about them, with intense battle ensuing from every direction, to keep them and their wingmen alive as they complete a critical mission for the Rebellion.”"

The question now is: Will a VR expansion to Star Wars Battlefront, be enough to sooth the average gamer, who was disappointed with EA’s newest offering in the Battlefront franchise? Will the inclusion of X-Wing missions be enough to bring back those players who left over the lack of single-player missions? Only time will tell.
