Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned a mention in the 2017 Guinness Book of World Records for setting three world records.

The 2017 Guinness Book of World Records is adding Star Wars: The Force Awakens to its prestigious list of world record breakers.

The 2015 Star Wars film broke three world records, according to Guinness World Records. Those accolades are listed below.

  • Fastest movie to gross $500 million at the U.S. box office
  • Largest box office weekend – $247.9 million
  • Most views on YouTube, movie trailer (official) – 91,512,152 views

With more Star Wars films planned for the foreseeable future, the franchise is bound to break even more records. Hype for Star Wars has never been stronger. The galaxy far, far away is everywhere – in commercials, the toy aisle, the clothing rack, home decor, and other places. More than that, Star Wars is a huge source of nostalgia for older generations, and a world of excitement for new and younger fans. The U.S. box office will never be bankrupt while Star Wars is at the theater.

Rogue One is already positioning itself to set more world records for its mother franchise. In merchandise, U.S. toy sales spiked 7 percent over the past year because of Star Wars products (via NY Post). That success is likely to continue with Disney’s launch of a Rogue One-themed toy line on September 30th. Then, on YouTube, the first full trailer for the December Star Wars film has generated over 20 million views, and it hasn’t even been on the internet for a full month. The Force is strong with whatever medium and industry Star Wars touches.
