Will Darth Maul face Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Rebels Season 3?

Thanks to a recent tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account, and a description of Maul in Rebels Season 3 from Disney XD, fans are now speculating that we may see the long awaited rematch between Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Rebels Season 3…

Without a doubt, one of the biggest surprises from the Star Wars Rebels Season 2 finale, was the re-emergence of a long-thought-dead character, Darth Maul. Going by the name “Old Master,” Maul has been hiding in the Sith Temple on Malachor, seeking the power of the Sith Holocron there.

Maul wormed his way into Ezra’s trust, and while initially helping the Jedi (Kanan and Ahsoka included), Maul predictably betrayed them, blinding Kanan in the process. Before the credits rolled on the Season 2 finale, Maul was shown flying a TIE off of Malachor, seeking something, or someone else, in the galaxy.

Website Star Wars News Net recently put together some information about Darth Maul, that may point to his intentions in Star Wars Rebels Season 3, and it is beginning to look as if finding and confronting Obi-Wan Kenobi may be the former Sith Lord’s ultimate goal.

It began with a tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account:

The re-emergence of Maul, in Star Wars Rebels, has brought to the surface, all the hatred and anger he had for Obi-Wan: The Jedi responsible for cleaving him in half, leaving the former Sith Lord to fall into madness for years, before being found by his brother,  Savage Opress.

SWNN also points to a cryptic description of Maul from Disney XD, for Star Wars Rebels Season 3:

"Now freed from the dark depths of Malachor, Maul is running amuck in the galaxy. Driven by a decades-long thirst for vengeance that risks clouding his sanity, the restless former Sith Lord hopes to heal old wounds by completing a task he should have done years ago. Though Maul has found the galaxy has changed much during his exile, the dark side trickster knows where a few secrets are buried."

As SWNN points out, another clue to an Obi-Wan vs Maul showdown could be from an interview that Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni had with Yahoo: (Note: Voice actor James Arnold Taylor voiced Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars animated series, as well as the first episode of Star Wars Rebels)

"“Ewan is absolutely someone on our radar, we would love to have him be a part of the show, for sure.”"

Could all this evidence be pointing to a final duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Maul? It’s certainly something the fans have been wanting to see since Maul’s re-emergence in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
