2. Death
Rumors have started to trickle out, that Rogue One might have a darker tone than any previously released Star Wars film to date. Even Empire Strikes Back. And at the risk of sounding morbid, that its all kinds of exciting. Many assumed when Rogue One was first announced as a side story from the main characters of a galaxy far, far away, that because these weren’t core characters, that meant any one of them could perish. That’s an exciting thing for fans that have long complained about the realism of our heroes constantly escaping near-fatal situations on a regular basis.
Not that we all want Game of Thrones level body counts, but a few of our heroes buying the farm in Rogue One won’t certainly up the tension level quite a bit. Sure Han Solo perished in The Force Awakens, but otherwise, no one ever really believed any of the core characters were ever truly in peril. Rogue One has the chance to change all of that, and it would be a refreshing change of pace for the Star Wars universe. If the final trailer were to begin to hint at the darker tone that we all suspect might be lurking beneath the surface, it could energize a whole new section of the fan community.
It would also explain why we don’t see any of the characters from Rogue One running around the original trilogy. So pretty please, with sugar on top, give us some death in the last Rogue One trailer.
