Super Director, Joss Whedon — Firefly, Marvel’s Avengers — wants to make a Star Wars movie…

Thanks to an interview with website Complex, we have word from Joss Whedon himself, that he wants to direct a Star Wars film. The interview is largely about Whedon’s return to the public eye, with his political video, starring all the stars of his own films. Here’s that:

And, while Whedon has decided to return to the limelight, he does have current and future projects in mind, and one dream project he now would like to take on is a Star Wars film. Here’s his quote:

"Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah. I was like, “I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie. Like, god dammit, why?” But I saw the trailer for Rogue awhile ago and I was like, “I want to do that.” To make a Star Wars movie and not be wed to the bigger picture."

What Whedon means, in regards to not being wed to the bigger picture, is that he has no interest in making a Star Wars trilogy (like he did with the Avengers films) but he would like to take on a Star Wars anthology film, much like Rogue One, the upcoming Han Solo film, and the untitled third standalone Star Wars movie.

Now, as far as what type of Star Wars film Whedon would like to direct, he doesn’t say, but boy would he do an amazing job with a Boba Fett standalone. All one needs to do, is to look to Whedon’s long-lamented Firefly television series, and its subsequent film Serenity, to know that the director can tackle a Star Wars film featuring a cult-classic hero, dwelling in the lower ends of society, taking bounty’s to make a living.
