The U-Wing is a troop transport first, and gunship second, but she is all awesome! Used by the Rebel Alliance in the battle to steal the plans for the first Death Star, the U-wing starfighter is an extremely well-armed “swing-wing” vessel (its s-foils can be locked into different positions for aerial combat) that is used to penetrate heavy fire landing zones to drop soldiers onto battlefields and then fly air support during dangerous missions.
