As we mentioned in the previous slide, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place 19 years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and ends mere moments before, or right into, Star Wars: A New Hope. In one regard, as Lucasfilm would have it, the film is absolutely a standalone film, as there are all-new characters, planets, ships, and stories to tell.
