With Rogue One hitting U.S. theaters in just two days, you might be wondering which format you should see it in. If immersive sights and sounds are what you are looking for, consider watching Rogue One in IMAX.
For those unaware of what makes IMAX so special compared to 3D and standard formats, the details are below.
The IMAX experience immerses audiences in a movie using high-tech audio and a gigantic screen. Sounds, tiny and loud, project from specific locations around the theater room to create the illusion the sounds are real and present where you are. The seats even vibrate with the sounds to mimic the vibrations caused by, say, an explosion.
IMAX is the perfect medium for Rogue One. Every sound and visual soars. All the hard work Lucasfilm puts into every Star Wars movie shines in the pure, immersive way fans long for.
It’s a good thing that Rogue One is showing on IMAX screens across the U.S. IMAX screens are easy to find: several different theater companies install them. Two of those theaters, Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, are even offering free swag for Star Wars fans.
On December 15th, 24th, and 31st, fans who attend Rogue One in IMAX at a Regal theater will receive a collectible ticket like those pictured below.

On December 18th and 25th and January 1st, AMC Theatres will give away one of the following IMAX exclusive mini-posters to fans who choose to see Disney’s first Star Wars standalone movie in IMAX at one of their theaters.

There is one thing you should be aware of when planning to watch a movie in IMAX: the ticket price. A big experience comes with a big price tag. For example, an IMAX in 3D ticket for an adult at my local Regal theater costs around $15. Keep that in mind when you are deciding which format to see Rogue One in and how many people to bring with you.
