39. Captain Phasma

Ah, Captain Phasma. The greatest mistake The Force Awakens committed was her. Here is this amazing female villain – the commander of the First Order’s army of stormtroopers – and she gets stuffed into a trash compactor before she can do anything but look cool.

This character ranks in at 39 and not lower because she has incredible potential. She is unlike any other female we have ever seen in Star Wars. At 6’3″, she towers over those around her. Her armor looks like normal stormtrooper armor, save for the chrome plating. If it weren’t for her distinctly feminine voice, you would never know for sure if she was a woman or not. Furthermore, she is completely devoid of the sexuality female villains are usually imbued with (Darth Talon, Asajj Ventress, and Aurra Sing are prime examples of the latter). Finally, she is a military leader, an expert in physical battle.

How cool and unique does this woman sound? And yet, we never get to see her use any of her awesome skills in The Force Awakens. We have to wait till Episode VIII for that. For goodness’ sake, Rian Johnson, do Captain Phasma justice!
