The Star Wars Databank tells us that Riyo Chuchi began her stint as Senator of Pantora “timidly.” But she quickly learns to be brave when duty requires her to take action.

The Clone Wars saw a variety of conflicts, not all of them between the Republic and the Separatists. The chairman of Plutonia, Chi Cho, tried to deny the Talz people their claim to the moon Orto Plutonia. Riyo stepped in and stood up against Chi Cho. She worked thereafter to forge a new peace between her people at the Talz.

Later, Riyo was put into the same position as Padme Amidala in The Phantom Menace. In an attempt to persuade the newly elected Pantoran chairman, Baron Papanoida, the Trade Federation kidnapped his daughters and blockaded Pantora. With Ahsoka Tano’s help, Riyo rescued one of Papanoida’s daughters and ended the blockade. Like Padme, she took matters into her own hands.

Riyo makes this list because she starts out shakily but ends up a heroine. Not everyone is born courageous or with a take-charge attitude. Some of us are more used to living as followers than leaders. Riyo shows you can grow into a leader and still be sensitive and caring.
