The Star Wars Databank describes Sabe as “the most important of Queen Amidala’s royal retinue of handmaidens.” Even more than Corde earlier in our list, Sabe’s role as a decoy for her queen is crucial to Padme’s safety.

Remember watching The Phantom Menace for the first time? Did you ever notice there were two different queens? As a kid, I never did. I didn’t even realize Natalie Portman’s voice was dubbed over with Keira Knightley’s till I was much older. Now imagine the bravery Sabe needed to adopt a different persona so completely. She fooled the Trade Federation to the point that if the Jedi had not rescued her and her entourage, she would have been executed in Padme’s place.

Another reason we love Sabe is she makes the third important female character in The Phantom Menace. Compare this to the last Star Wars film made before Menace, Return of the Jedi. The only important female character in that film was Leia. Sabe is the saga’s most unsung heroine, and that earns her the rank of 30 on this list.
