21. The Daughter

The Daughter is perhaps one of the strangest female Star Wars character of all. She appears in The Clone Wars as a manifestation of the light side of the Force. The Daughter is part of the Mortis trifecta representing the balance of the Force. Her brother, the Son, is allied to the dark side. Their father balances the two. Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano meet this strange family when their ship happens upon Mortis during a space journey.

The Daughter is more of a goddess than a human being. One need only look at her the ethereal glow of her skin, her floating hair, and her towering height (seven feet) to know she is not of any known world. The fact she can turn into a griffin at will also hints at her mystical qualities.

As the representative of the light side, the Daughter is a paragon of self-sacrifice. When the Son tries to stab the Father, the Daughter steps in between and takes the death blow. She uses her remaining life force to bring Ahsoka Tano back from the dead. The Daughter’s death shrouds Mortis in darkness until the Jedi kill the Son.

What does the Jedi’s adventure on Mortis mean? Is the Daughter real or is she a fantasy created by the Force? Whatever her purpose in the canon, she is a fascinating figure of Star Wars mythos and a beautiful character.
