Early trailers made it clear that Rogue One was devoid of lightsabers, Jedi, and The Force. But it still ended up being the film to first mention Kyber crystals. With that also came the first mention of the Guardians of the Whills. Along with being protectors of the Temple of Kyber, The Guardians of the Whills were another religious group separate from the Jedi. The Guardians were also deeply connected with The Force.
