Of course, Leia was gonna be mentioned at the very least. Anyone who’s seen A New Hope knew she places the Death Star plans inside R2-D2, along with the iconic message for Obi-Wan Kenobi. But personally, I was gonna be ok with just mention of her, and the film hopefully ending with the plans getting to her transporter ship.
It never even crossed my mind we would actually get to see her character, even if it ended up being CGI. I still couldn’t believe my eyes! That single line of dialogue from the Princess of “Hope.” It became poetic and synchronistic, it seemed almost preordained. 11 short days after Rogue One was released, the beloved actress who portrayed Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, suddenly passed away.
