The Last Jedi teaser vs The Force Awakens teaser is exactly the same!

In a surprising twist, the very first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi lined up with the very first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens produces an eerily exact match….

Last week, during the 2017 Star Wars Celebration, the very first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was shown to the world. Images of Rey using the Force, Poe and his trusty droid BB-8, Finn, Phasma slow-mo walking through flames, Kylo Ren pointing his signature lightsaber at someone off-screen, a silhouetted Leia, and a very serious Luke Skywalker.

Just in case you need a refresher (not that you haven’t watched and re-watched it a hundred times), here it is, in all its glory:

Ah, yes. It still gets me right in the feels, like only a Star Wars teaser trailer could. Now, for comparison, here’s the very first teaser trailer for The Force Awakens:

Two years later — and having seen the actual film several times — and this teaser still makes me all misty eyed. Okay, but did you notice the subtle similarities? Did you get how close the two actually are? Well, Someone at GameSpot did, and they spliced the two teaser trailers together. Check it out:

Amazing how the two line up, right? Obviously, Finn has been swapped for Rey, and Jakku’s desert landscape has been replaced by Ahch-to’s seas, but other than that, they are nearly identical. I love how Rian Johnson placed Leia watch the galactic map in the spot of Kylo Ren overlooking Starkiller base’s laser beam…a nice touch, that.
