To make up for missing ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor Adam Scott’s birthday party many years ago, Mark Hamill surprised him on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Imagine you’re a little kid. You are a huge fan of Star Wars and Luke Skywalker, so you write to Luke actor Mark Hamill and invite him to your birthday party. Of course, he doesn’t show up because, big celebrity that he is, he is extremely busy. Chances are that he didn’t even read your letter among the thousands of letters he probably receives every day.
No big deal, though. Because there’s always a chance you will get to meet him many years later when he surprises you on a late night talk show.
That’s what happened to actor Adam Scott. Scott is best known for his role as Ben in the popular NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009-2015). In 2017, he appeared in season one of HBO’s Big Little Lies alongside Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. But first and foremost, Scott is a fan of Star Wars. When he was a little kid, he wrote a letter to Mark Hamill inviting the actor to his birthday party. Hamill didn’t show, of course, and Scott moved on with his life. But, as his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live shows, you should never give up on your Star Wars dreams. They just might come true someday.
Watch the moment Hamill emerges on the Jimmy Kimmel Live stage to greet a trembling and ecstatic Scott below.
“I’m sorry I missed your birthday,” Hamill, ever the comedian, said. “I was checking my diary and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah and a supermarket opening.”
Scott responded like a true fanboy, saying, “This really is… one of the best moments of my life.”
