Coming in August 2017 is a new Marvel Star Wars comic miniseries, “Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu.” The series is set at the beginning of the Clone Wars.
Per an announcement by StarWars.com Thursday morning, Mace Windu is back and more badass than ever before.
In a new miniseries from Marvel called Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu, the powerful Jedi Master navigates the new military role the Jedi are forced to take in the Clone Wars.
The series is written by Matt Owens (Elektra) and illustrated by Denys Cowan (Nighthawk). It will consist of five issues, the first of which releases in August 2017.
I find Mace Windu’s perspective on war interesting. in Attack of the Clones, he tells Chancellor Palpatine, “We are keepers of the peace, not soldiers.” Clearly, though, he has no problem resorting to violence as we saw in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. I wonder if Windu unwittingly lets the war feed his penchant for badassery in combat, making him arrogant and distrustful as we see him in Revenge of the Sith.
Check out the cover of issue #1 of Mace Windu’s new comic series by Jesus Saiz (Captain America) below. It doesn’t appear that Windu has any moral qualms about taking down a droid or two (or twenty).

The title “Jedi of the Republic” hints that we may see more miniseries under the same heading and which focus on other Jedi. I love that idea because there are so many cool Jedi who are active circa the Clone Wars era. The series could even jump eras and talk about Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn who died before the Clone Wars began.
But first, Mace Windu gets to tell his story. Pick up issue #1 of Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu in August 2017 wherever comicbooks are sold.
