It’s been a huge week for Star Wars fans, as Vanity Fair released its full coverage of Star Wars: The Last Jedi…
Vanity Fair revealed a metric ton of new Star Wars: The Last Jedi information, this week, as the magazine released its full-press coverage of the film, including interviews with the cast and crew, as well as a stunningly beautiful photo cover shoot by world renown photographer, Annie Leibovitz.
1. Skellig Michael, the return.
As part of that coverage, VF released a comprehensive preview of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, along with what fans can expect to see (and not see) when the film debuts on December 15.
Starting with the obvious, Mark Hamill talked about returning to Skellig Michael, the island off the coast of County Kerry, in Ireland. Skellig Michael was used as the planet Ahch-To where Luke Skywalker hid away from the rest of the galaxy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Hamill didn’t sound too pleased he had to go back.
"When I read the script for Episode VIII, I went, ‘Oh my God, we’re going back?’ Because I said I was never going back."
Hamill was given an hour and a half to climb the hundreds of narrow stone steps to the top of Skellig Michael where he and Daisy Ridley (who was given 45 minutes to make the climb — age before beauty) would continue their scene from the end of The Force Awakens.
