25. A Jedi and Sith Holocron joined

Episode: Season 3 Episode 3: Holocrons of Fate

The Moment: When Kanan and Ezra are on a mission for the Rebellion, they learn that Maul has kidnapped the rest of the Ghost crew. Maul is seeking to use both the Jedi Holocron of Kanan and the Sith Holocron that Ezra acquired on Malachor. The duo travels to Maul’s hidden base, learning that their friends are still alive. Maul tries to kill Kanan, but he is able to survive.

Maul forces Ezra to open the Jedi Holocron, which Maul cannot open, and Maul then opens the Sith Holocron. Come to find out, if you join those two ancient devices together, you can see into the future and gain vital information through the Force. Maul and Ezra both see visions, that aren’t completely clear, then the Holocrons cause a minor explosion, ending the vision prematurely.

Maul escapes via a Mandalorian vessel he acquired during the Clone Wars, thrilled that he had just learned that Obi-Wan Kenobi is in fact still alive.

Why It’s Memorable: Holocrons can be joined together? Say what?! The cool factor of Rebels is already at an all-time high by introducing not only Jedi Holocrons, but Sith ones as well. But adding to the lore that they can be joined and used to gain knowledge through the Force? Woah! This episode shows that Maul is still the same old same old deceiver, using Ezra to achieve his goal. Apparently ,that goal is to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi.

He lives. He lives! Maul echoed those words when he was escaping, leaving Rebels fans with a moment we will never forget when that first aired. Fans had been dying to see Kenobi (the old Ben version that is) and that alluded to what we would get later on. Thank you Filoni. Thank you!
