42. The Talz vs. Chairman Cho

Episode:  Season 1 Episode 15: Trespass

"Episode Summary: Arriving on the desolate ice world of Orto Plutonia, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi investigate the disappearance of a clone security force stationed on a remote outpost. The Jedi, accompanied by Senator Riyo Chuchi and Chairman Cho of the nearby moon of Pantora, soon discover their clone troopers were attacked by a tribe of furry natives known as the Talz. Fierce beast-riding warriors, the Talz are very territorial and only want to be left alone. The Jedi manage to negotiate peace with the Talz chieftain, Thi-Sen, when greedy Chairman Cho breaks it by insisting the planet and the Talz are under his power. The resulting conflict escalates into war between the senator led clones and the Talz, with the Jedi in the middle."

The Moment: Obi Wan and Anakin lose all contact with Clone-troopers on Orto Plutonia. They travel to the ice-covered world where they encounter not only treacherousness physical elements, butalso  of internal conflict within the planet’s inhabitants. The two Jedi must overcome language barriers and also the arrogance of the planet’s leader, in order to complete their task.

Why It’s Memorable: The first time we see the Talz species is in A New Hope in the Mos Eisley cantina. Now we learn that these funky looking creatures are a primitive race in origin and a fierce group of warriors.

This episode really displayed the language and cultural barrier within two different people groups on the same planet. Its a good lesson to us all not to hate those who are different and that being power hungry like Cho can lead to disaster and one’s downfall.

I also love seeing Anakin and Obi-Wan in elements where they show their goodness and eagerness to solve conflict, doing so in style!

Plus, nice nod to Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back with those fancy winter parkas!
