37. R2-D2 and R3-S6 duel to the death
Episode: Season 1 Episode 7: Duel of the Droids
"Episode Summary: Anakin, Ahsoka and replacement droid R3-S6 embark on a dual rescue/sabotage mission when they discover R2-D2 is being held at General Grievous’ secret enemy listening post, Skytop Station."
The Moment: R2-D2 has vital information in his memory storage that Darth Sidious desperately seeks to acquire. He entrusts that task to the cyborg General Grievous, who holds the blue droid captive. Anakin, Ahsoka, and a Separatist spy droid, with very bad intentions, then rescue the captive R2, and R3 accidentally reveals that he is up to no good. R2 is able to take care of R3 and escapes the General with the help of Anakin and Ahsoka, and definitely no with no thanks from R3.
Why It’s Memorable: More R2-D2 is always a very good thing. On the surface, this episode looks to be just a fun filler story, but there is actually more than meets the eye here.
The bravery, once again, of the dynamic duo of Anakin and Ahsoka is on display. They do whatever it takes to save their droid and view R2 as more of a friend, but a companion. This is a rarity for most Jedi, who do not form attachments to their droids( or other things), but Anakin and Ahsoka prove why they are two of a kind.
R2 is my favorite droid in Star Wars and he shows here why he is not to be messed with. His superiority over a formidable opponent in R3, once again, displays his status as the coolest droid in the galaxy.
