48. A traitor is exposed to the Clones

Episode:  Season 1 Episode 16: The Hidden Enemy

"Episode Summary:  Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi lead Republic forces in an attempt to defeat the droid armies and free the planet of Christophsis from the Separatist siege. When the Republic is ambushed and forced to retreat, it becomes clear that someone in their midst has set them up. The Jedi believe this infiltration is a Sith-backed operation and go behind enemy lines to investigate. Meanwhile, Captain Rex and Commander Cody set out to uncover the traitor among them."

The Moment: We learn that Asajj Ventress was behind the defection of Clone-trooper Slick, who she deceived into betraying the Republic, promising him a life of freedom. It ended up being a vain promise, when the betrayer was taken into custody by his clone brothers.

Why It’s Memorable: To be fair, the clone in question was named Slick. That’s not obvious or anything, right? This story spawned the possibilities and even a seed into the clones themselves, that they had a choice with their own lives and that they could even leave their designation as troopers. Later that is explored by clone defector Cut Lawquane( more on him later), and also with Fives who had his chip removed in an attempt to discover a sinister plot. Also that is shown during the events of order 66 when Rex and other clones made the choice to not betray their Jedi. I thought these clones were supposed to be less independent than the original host, Jango Fett? I suppose not!
