43. Anakin infiltrates a slave colony on Zygerria

Episode:  Season 4 Episode 12: Slaves of the Republic

"Episode Summary: To locate the missing colonists, Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka go undercover to infiltrate the slavers on Zygerria. Anakin struggles with his emotions as a wily Zygerrian queen forces him to take questionable actions in order to carry out his mission."

The Moment: Anakin goes undercover, using his charm to get the Intel and complete his mission at hand.

Why It’s Memorable: Dealing with the past can be tough and this mission forces Anakin to deal with his childhood as a slave. His hatred and zero tolerance for oppression and slavery are not hidden, so when Anakin sees it running wild throughout the galaxy, he will not allow the slavers to get away with it so easily.

The tragic aspect of Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side and his transformation into the unforgiving Darth Vader are spawned by his intentions, which are noble and good. All Anakin wanted to do was save his mother, protect Padmé, save and protect the galaxy, and fulfill his role as the Chosen One.

The ironic part is he lost his mother, his actions lead to the death of his wife with the intent of protecting her, Ahsoka left his side for reasons he understood more than most, and then later vowed to kill her, and became the very evil in the galaxy he originally vowed to destroy.

Anakin’s salute to R2 is a nod( both literally and figuratively) to Luke Skywalker’s antics in Return of the Jedi. Both Luke and Anakin have the knack for using their comrade R2 to achieve their goals. Luke truly is a Jedi, like his father before him.
