Read an excerpt from Star Wars: Phasma
Dive into the origins of Captain Phasma in this latest excerpt brought to you by Penguin Random House…
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is less than four months away now, but preceding that, the Journey to The Last Jedi, will hold us over until then, with some stories leading up to it, including the highly anticipated Phasma novel, where we will learn the origins of the chromed-out warrior from The Force Awakens.
Phasma will have much more screen time in The Last Jedi, where we will finally get that showdown between her and Finn. Knowing her full backstory and origins is a must preceding that anticipated duel, which will add much-needed depth behind the mask of the Captain of the First Order Stormtrooper corps.
Star Wars: Phasma is written by author Delilah S. Dawson, where we will learn all about Phasma’s shadowy history. The novel drops September 1st, but in the meantime, here’s a taste of the novel, with an excerpt from Penguin Random House, released via StarWars.com

The first strange figure was dragged to standing on top of the plateau. It was a man, and for Parnassos, he wore very little, just finely woven clothes of a smooth, uniform black and tall, shiny boots speckled with sand. He was the oldest person the Scyre folk had ever seen, with pale-white skin and red hair going gray at the edges…
My name is Brendol Hux, and I’m afraid my starship was shot down by an automated defense system over your world. My language is a little different from yours, so this droid will translate to your more primitive dialect.
I come from a powerful band called the First Order that brings peace to the galaxy. I am tasked with scouring the stars for the greatest warriors, that they might join our cause. Our people are well cared for and well trained.
Each of these warriors was selected from a distant planet and trained to fight for the First Order. If your people help return us to our ship, I will take whoever wishes to join me back to our fleet. These soldiers will live in glory and wealth, never suffering for want again. Now, who will help me?
A new figure appeared beside Brendol Hux, a warrior wearing a fierce red mask.
I am Phasma, and I am the greatest warrior of Parnassos.” Removing her mask, Phasma faced Brendol and waited for the robot to translate. I will help you find your ship.
From this short exchange, we learn quite a bit about Phasma right off the bat. We know that she is already a great warrior, who hails from the unknown world of Parnassos. She was then recruited by General Brendol Hux, not to be confused with Armitage Hux from The Force Awakens who is his son.
Apparently, Phasma impressed the General and ends up finding their lost ship, later earning a spot within in the army of the First Order, quickly climbing the ranks.
