(Video) Watch Mark Hamill display lightsaber training for The Last Jedi

Mark Hamill, Luke could possibly ignite his green lightsaber in The Last Jedi…

During Return of the Jedi, when Luke Skywalker — played by Mark Hamill — reveals his newly constructed green-bladed lightsaber, it was the first time any color but blue or red has been used for a lightsaber in the Star Wars cinematic universe.

After Luke refused to fight his father, Darth Vader, in the Emperor’s throne room on the second Death Star, the young Jedi then tosses his weapon to the ground, refusing to give in to the Dark Side of the Force.

Luke then redeems his father, before Vader — now Anakin Skywalker once again — dies from Force lightning used by his former Sith Master, Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine.

Did Luke grab his lightsaber before the Death Star II was destroyed?

Yes. During the celebration of Endor, Luke’s Jedi weapon is clearly clipped onto his utility belt. And, If you need new canon proof, Luke uses the green blade in The Shattered Empire comic, on a mission to take back some ancient Jedi relics the Emperor had stolen from the former Jedi Temple.

The question remains: Does Luke still have possession of the lightsaber when we meet him again at last in The Force Awakens? And, will he use it in The Last Jedi?

So far, the only clues we have are found in the form of Star Wars toys.

The most recent Luke Skywalker Funko Pop! Bobblehead shows the Jedi Master only carrying a walking stick. There is no lightsaber hilt present. The same rings true for the recent action figures released, with no presence of the Jedi weapon either.

However, a recent video was shared on Star Wars Leaks subreddit, with Mark Hamill practicing his lightsaber skills that he apparently learned in training for The Last Jedi.

"Mark Hamill talking about the lightsaber classes he took for TLJ from StarWarsLeaks"

Mark Hamill shows off an impressive set of lightsaber spinning skills in this video. The veteran actor even mentions that he took classes where “they would do the lightsaber drill.” It would be pointless to train in the Jedi arts unless you’re going to use them in the film. It’s time to get really excited, Star Wars fans!
