Episode 3: Teach You, I Will

I have made no secret of the fact that I absolutely love Ahsoka Tano (and the amazing Ashley Eckstein who voices her), so naturally, I was excited to see more of her.

This episode finds her training with Anakin at the Jedi Temple. The lesson: learning to fight with two lightsabers. When Yoda shows up to assess Ahsoka’s progress by means of some saber sparring, both Anakin and Ahsoka are visibly nervous. At first, Ahsoka is completely off her game. Master Yoda then reminds Ahsoka of something very important:

"What makes you unique, makes you strong."

In this moment, we see Ahsoka shift from a more traditional combat stance to her very unique one (the way she holds her lightsabers facing back instead of forward). After that moment, she beings to excel in the duel.

I think that this message of “be yourself and you will succeed” is one that they use Ahsoka’s character to drive home time and again. Her journey throughout the Clone Wars, especially, is one of self-discovery.

By the end of the series, she has become unapologetically herself. This is what allows her to walk away from The Order. She is such a powerful example to young girls about the importance of being true to yourself.
